This site is a repository for learning programmes and other resources developed by Alan Gillies over a forty-year career, the last twenty-five of which have been engaged in developing technology-assisted learning programmes.

Professor Alan Gillies
Alan Gillies has had a forty-year career built on helping others to learn. He started his academic career after leaving the Queen’s College Oxford at Lancashire Polytechnic in 1985, followed by four years at the University of Salford.
In 1994, he was awarded a full Professorship by The University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN). He also returned to The University of Oxford in the 1990s to teach in the Department of Postgraduate Medical Education and Training. He went on to design and implement the first online Masters programme at UCLAN in 1998, a course that still runs today. The course has been widely praised and was adopted by the NHS as a model for online delivery of its professional awards. It was also chosen as the educational component of the first management development programme for future leaders in knowledge and information management in the NHS. Alan’s course has also gained international recognition, forming the model for a European Master’s in Health Research Methods for the European Union, in collaboration with partners in Italy, France and Romania. In 2001, Alan received an honorary doctorate from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
He left full-time academia and founded his own business in 2010 to put into practice the knowledge and expertise gained in his academic career. Since its inception, he has worked internationally for governments, global agencies, NGOs, universities, public bodies, private companies and charitable organisations.
In 2021, he joined the International University (IU) of Applied Sciences in Germany as Professor of Healthcare Management to return to his academic and teaching roots. The IU is the largest University in Europe and provides courses for students globally, and is a leader in technology-enabled learning.
